Whew. Talk about a country sad song. This new one from Ryan Griffin will have you thinking about some things.
Ryan is new to us here at CML. I don’t think I’ve heard any of his music before. But he has a new song out now. It made its way to Wild Country on Spotify.
I think that’s a pretty big deal for a new artist. I don’t know how Spotify curates songs for that list, but it’s proven to be a precursor to success in Nashville. Not always, but quite a bit.
Anyway, let’s check this one out.
Woulda Left Me Too – Ryan Griffin
This song is very reflective. It’s a guy looking back on a relationship and how he really screwed things up. He didn’t realize it at the time. I don’t know if we ever do.
But he sees it now. And he’s not angry with the girl. The hook with the song is that he realizes that he was not being a good person. He wasn’t someone that he would even want to be with. He woulda left himself too with the way he was treating her.
Lots of emotion in this lyric and in the delivery. Ryan has a good voice. It kind of reminds me of Billy Gilman a little bit. And I’m a Billy Gilman fan.
It looks like this one is an independent release. But the way things are in Nashville now it could be picked up by one of the majors. You never know.
I’d love to know your thoughts on this one.
