Cole Swindell’s debut album was a huge success.
There aren’t too many country artists that come out with a debut that features two number ones and two number two hits. That’s pretty incredible.
It’s great and wonderful and all that, but the pressure then builds for that second album.
But I think Cole will be able to come up with some more great songs for the second record and he’s already got the first single ready for us.
You Should Be Here – Cole Swindell
This is definitely a step in a different direction for Cole. His songs have been pretty upbeat and fun up until this point; at least that’s how the singles have been.
This one definitely has a more somber feel.
The song is about loss. I think it’s about losing someone to death and it seems like untimely death. I think it’s about a spouse or something that you love in that way.
But it could just as easily be about anyone you care about whether it’s family or friend or whatever.
Death is something that unfortunately affects all of us. And there are many times, especially in the early days of the loss, that it is really tough. There are those moments when you think the situation is perfect and that the person you lost would fit in really well and bring even that much more.
And it’s in those happy times when you can feel sad.
There are some powerful lines in this song. The one about hearing people say that the person is in a better place and thinking that you would be too if they were here.
I think this sounds like a hit. And it should further establish Cole as an artist that will be around for a good while.
Chart Estimate: #1
CML Points: 93/100
I guess it will be a huge sucess! Cole deserves and it is good to see him going in a different direction with this first single. The #YouShouldBeHere campaign is so nice too.=)
