Brandy Clark is just one of the best.
Brandy Clark has been one of the best songwriters in Nashville for about the last 5-10 years. She’s had a number of hits for artists including Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves.
I remember watching an interview with Kacey where she was talking about a line in a song that Brandy came up with. Kacey just shook her head at how clever the line was and thought to herself about Brandy, “Of course you would come up with that line.”
Or something like that.
Now Brandy has signed with Warner Bros. That’s a big time label in Nashville. The songs she’s put out with them have been good, but she’s still looking for that breakout hit of her own.
Maybe this will be the one.
You’re Drunk – Brandy Clark
This one takes a familiar line and kind of streams it out into a full on story. And don’t we really need a few more traditional story songs in country music? We get them once in awhile. I get that it’s probably difficult to write them, but they used to be such staples.
Anyway, we have a woman where that’s dealing with a significant other that can’t really get their stuff together. They’re a mess. They’ve had history. The other person is still hanging on to things. And I guess so is the narrator.
But the other person only calls and confesses their love when they’ve had a few drinks.
More than a few of us have been there.
Great song from a great artist.
